Karachunskiy Aleksander I.

Aleksander Isaakovich Karachunskiy is a Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, director of the Oncology, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Institute at the Dmitry Rogachev Federal Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology where he supervises introduction of the latest treatments of oncological diseases in children and teens, constant collaboration with doctors and researches – leading international specialists in oncology, radiology, hematology and pediatrics.

Dr. Karachunskiy specializes in clinical oncology. He has published more than 80 scientific papers, 15 of them in journals with high impact factor according to international citation databases. He supervised 18 PhD and 5 Doctor of Medical Science dissertations.

Dr. Karachunskiy has been working in the field of clinical oncology for 25 years. He supervised implementation of many new protocols for treatment of oncological diseases in children and teens. He developed and managed the first in Russia multicenter randomized clinical trial for optimization of treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children. In 1991 in collaboration with German colleagues Dr. Karachunskiy developed a fundamentally new concept of acute lymphoblastic leukemia treatment in children called Moscow-Berlin.

Dr. Karachunskiy is an experienced teacher. He is a professor at the Oncology, Hematology and Beam Radiation Therapy Department of the Pediatric Faculty at the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. In September of 2013 he created and became the head of the Department of Medical Information Systems at the Moscow Technological University.

Dr. Karachunskiy is a board member of the Russian National Society of Pediatric Hematologists and Oncologists, member of editorial boards of Oncohematology, Questions of Hematology/Oncology and Immunopathology in Pediatrics.

Dr. Karachunskiy received the “True Calling” National Award as one of the best doctors in Russia, the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” II class, the “Excellence in Healthcare” chest badge.
